SKOPJE: Former Wales and Real Madrid boss John Toshack is stepping down as coach of Macedonia after just a year in charge, the Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) confirmed on Monday.
The 63-year-old has left the role after failing to meet requirements set by new FFM president Ilcho Gjorgjioski.
Gjorgjioski had wanted Toshack to move to Macedonia, but the Welshman had opted instead to commute from Spain.
A statement on the FFM's website read: "The coach of the Macedonian team John Toshack was not ready to meet the requirements of the president of the FFM Ilcho Gjorgjioski and ultimately agreed a contractual termination."
In eight games in charge Toshack's only win came against Andorra in a Euro 2012 qualifier.
His departure comes less than a month before the start of a World Cup qualifying campaign that was set to see him face Wales.
