Passi leads India to 63-run win over Zimbabwe



TOWNSVILLE: India earned their first victory in the ICC Under-19 World Cup defeating Zimbabwe by 63 runs despite a fine hundred by Malcolm Lake in a match here at the Tony Ireland Stadium on Tuesday.
Batting first after being sent into bat by Zimbabwe, India made 261 for six in the allotted 50 overs with the help of a 139-run opening wicket stand provided by captain Umukt Chand and Prashant Chopra.
Chand top-scored with 78 and Chopra scored 57 but no other batsman could make any significant score.
However, allrounder Kamal Passi smashed an unbeaten 24 off just five balls in the final over with three sixes and a four.
Later in a devastating bowling display, he took the first four wickets to fall during a six-over spell that severely set back the Zimbabwe chase.a and they were all out for 198 in 44.1 overs

However, allrounder Lake scored a fine century, making 118 off 107 balls with ten fours and five sixes
The second highest score was 29 by Luke Jongwe as no other abtsman could get into double figures.
Medium-pacer Passi, finished on six for 23 in 8.1 overs and later was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his excellent allround performance.
